What you need

Let's go

  1. Pour milk into the plate so the bottom is covered.

  2. Add a few drops of different food colouring near the middle.

  3. Dip the cotton bud in washing-up liquid.

  4. Touch the tip of the cotton bud into the milk in the middle and hold it still. Watch the colours burst outwards.

  5. Try touching different spots. The soap breaks up the fat in the milk, and the colours ride the movement.

Real talk

  • Full-fat milk gives the most dramatic swirls. Skimmed barely moves.
  • Take a video. It looks amazing slowed down.
